Survivorship Bias

  • Caused by lack of visibility because it focuses on what's survived, and ignores the stories that went belly up

  • It can distort performance figures by making results look to be better than they are and is a form of selection bias

  • Action: Don't look at only what is presented or in front of you but also what is missing? If you only hear about the success stories and the people that made it through, you're only getting to see a small piece of the pie which is why 'if I can do it, anyone can!' can in some cases prove to be dangerous

  • History is written by the survivors and ignores the casualties
