Occam's Razor

  • "In simpler language, Occam’s razor states that the simplest explanation is preferable to one that is more complex. Simple theories are easier to verify. Simple solutions are easier to execute." - Farnham Street

  • Helps you make quick decisions with the information you have to hand at the time (usually the most essential and bare minimum of assumptions) - form the simplest hypothesis

  • And encourages you to gather more information/evidence before completing a comprehensive deep-dive into the subject/scenario/problem

  • All other things being equal, the simplest solution is often the best/correct one

  • Occam's razor states that you should not use more 'entities' than needed to explain anything - avoid the more elaborate explanation

  • "It advocates simplicity by focusing on key elements of the problem, eliminating improbable options and finding solutions with less assumptions." - Tech Tello
